Autodesk releases free Mac OS X video effects app

Autodesk has released a free video effects app for Mac OS X Lion. Motion FX builds on the company’s Maya Fluids technology. It combines the system with a live video feed, enabling users to control the effects or warp the picture in real time. The app enables users to create smoke, fire and a variety of other fluid effects that react to real-time movements captured on the Mac FaceTime camera.

Autodesk has acquired “certain technology-related assets” from Numenus, developer of specialist NURBS rendering software RenderGin. As a result of the acquisition, Autodesk software users should gain more accurate visualization of surfaces and spend less time preparing quality visualization data. Thhis also reflects Autodesk’s continuing commitment to provide a comprehensive Digital Prototyping solution to manufacturers of all sizes, giving them the ability to design, visualize and simulate their products before they are built.
