LuxRender 1.1 is out

modelingLess than a month after releasing later version of Luxrender, is new update released. According to Luxrender forum what really motivated this new release is the Blender 2.64 release which was incompatible with the LuxRender v1.0 exporter. New version brings a speed improvement ranging from 10 to 40%, a brand new, more realistic sky model and various improvements. This version should be also best to answer your questions in the forums or in the bug tracker.

 

 

 

3D World #162 is out

modelingNew issue of 3D World magazine is coming out. In new issue you can find sea creatures, critters or pink, dummy-toting beasties from the movies because topic of this issue is CG creature art, Blender vehicles and Hotel Transylvania. So this time Renee Dunlop discovers how the characters in Hotel Transylvania were brought to life using simple silhouettes, vivid colours and strong graphic clarity. Kulsoom Middleton talks to self-taught creature concept artist Fausto De Martini about his mix of mechanical and sci-fi styles, and constantly coming up with fresh ideas.

Blender 2.64 is released

modelingThe Blender Foundation has finally released Blender 2.64. This release was targeted at improving Blender for the Mango open movie project, along with integrating branches and patches from the past years.

The focus was on creating a full VFX pipeline, with improved motion tracking using a planar tracker, easier green screen keying, and a new mask editor. A new tile based compositing system was added, along with more advanced color management. Cycles rendering got dozens of smaller features and improvements resulting from its use in production.

In this first series the artists use the freedom and creativity to create the organic forms of their quadrapeds. The next tutorial series starting this month is featuring the creating a 3D model from a 2D concept. The 2D concept for this series was made by Ling Yun and its representing a futuristic vehicle. The artist will use the 2D concept and technical drawings provided, to talk us through a step-by-step guide to turning this information into an accurate and exciting 3D model.
