3DTotal published a new e-book called „Stylizing Toons“. In this book their pointing on the problem of finding a balance between exaggeration and design by this kind of works. Jose Alves da Silva in this e-book will show the readers how to do the balance; the entire process is explained from beginning to end, starting creating the concept through to modeling, sculpting, texturing, lighting and post-production for both an Animal and Human character. The e-book is download only in PDF format covering 114 pages and 193 MB size.

Maxwell updated their renderer for Modo R2 to version 2.5100. The new updated release is featuring several changes, bug fixes and also some new features. Maxwell improved the Maxwell Fire window refresh; now window automatically refresh if a scale, rotation or translation item has been added to or removed from an item. Also the base style of Maxwell Fire window has been changed from palette to window style. The new feature which Maxwell implemented in this release is the possibility of displacement controls for auto converted materials by Maxwell Render. A new LuxRender competition started. The goal of this competition is very simple; you have to show the capabilities of LuxRender to the community of LuxRender artists. The for this completion is Poetry in "Motion". The competition started two days ago and will be „open“ until August 26th 2011 23:59:59 UTC, after which voting will follow. There is one required element in this completion. You must use Motion blur in some way in your scene. Any entries in this completion without this element will be disqualified.
Daniele Orsetti published at 3DTotal his new making of called „Private Charlie“. Daniele explains in the making of that the initial concept of „Private Charlie“ was created to teach character modeling during a master degree of computer graphics at the BigRock training center in Italy. Because he liked the character he decided to develop the idea further. In the making of Daniele describes the transforming of the original design of the character into version 2 where the hardest part was to create a cartoony but realistic character. He spent many hours watching references and after having the idea he started to rework the original Charlie.
