Behind scenes of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol with VFX Supervisor John Knoll

modeling

This time we recommended you another „behind scene“ interview. Portal Art of VFX asked some questions John Knoll, VFX Supervisor in ILM, about their part at Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol. ILM`s team was responsible for creating about 700 shots on the film, e.g. the Kremlin explosion, huge sand storm that surround Dubai or Burj Tower climbing sequence, where Ethan climbed from the 118th to the 130th floor of the world’s tallest building. As James Knoll revealed, this scene was largely filmed on the real building at the full height depicted.

Surely interesting is that Tom Cruise climbed the exterior of the building, and visual effects were used to remove safety cables and their reflections in the building. If you also want to know more about other sequences, which programs were used, how long it takes make these scenes or what from the final fight was real and what was CG, sure read this interview.
