Autodesk gives amazing opportunity for students. They can get free access to the current release of Autodesk software including 3ds Max or Maya. You have to join to Autodesk Education Community and also satisfy their requirements. The software you get from the Autodesk Education Community is the full-featured. However, there may be a watermark on output that indicates the design was created using an Educational copy. This software you can get comes with 36 month license.

New issue of 3D World magazine is coming out. As a cover picture reveals, this issue is focused tips and techniques for real-world simulations such as fire, water and outer space. Concretely Andrew Price walks you through the creation of fire and fluids using Blender’s built-in simulation tools. Remaining finalists of VFX for Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that 10 films remain in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 84th Academy Awards. All members of the Visual Effects Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will view 10-minute excerpts from each of the 10 shortlisted films on January 19 and vote for five final nominees for the award. The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 24, 2012.
